MYPO Background

1. Organizational Background
Mon Youth Progressive Organization (MYPO) is an independent youth organization comprised of Mon youth from different Townships in Mon State, Karen State and Thanintaries Division. In 1999, June 18, a group of Mon youth came together and shared an idea of forming a youth organization to work for Mon youth, for the community, for National and to train youth leader among Mon communities.
In 2001, November 18, MYPO was systematically founded in Thai-Burma border, Sangkharaburi, Thailand with the aims to promote peace, equality and liberty to the people of Myanmar. MYPO works on the empowerment of young men and women, the improving cooperation among Mon youth, civil society organization and ethnic youth, the promotion of democratic practices and equal rights, the sound development of civil society sector, and the preservation of Mon literature and culture.
Every two year, MYPO had its conference; developed and updated its constitution, policies, and activities and had its election; elected the member of the leading committee including chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary and joint-secretary by secret vote. MYPO held its 8th Conference in May 2022. Start from 2022, the MYPO’s conference and election will be 3 year a time.
2. Achievement
Since 2001, MYPO has developed the organization and its activities based on its vision, mission and objectives, the needs of the youth and communities. MYPO has been working with Mon local civil societies and building the capacities of youth in the areas of leadership, democratic value, general knowledge, building networks with Mon and other ethnic groups, organizing youth seminar, youth exchanges and follow-up, rights based trainings, etc.
By slowly, MYPO has built strong networks with local young leaders, religious leaders, and local authorities, other Mon CBOs, CSOs and NGOs, local Mon youth groups as well as ethnic youth from different parts of Myanmar.
Successfully, MYPO has raised knowledge, skills and experience of thousands of young men and women in a year and trained hundreds of leaders and youth leaders who are currently serving for the nation, working at different political parties, ethnic armed organizations, NGO and CSOs.
MYPO has formed and strengthened village based and townships based youth organization and formed Mon Youth Forum (MYF) as well as alliance and partner with different ethnic organizations and civic society organizations. MYPO has built strong networks with local young leaders, religious leaders, and local authorities, other Mon CBOs, CSOs and NGOs, local Mon youth groups as well as ethnic youth from different parts of Myanmar.
MYOP has protected against injustice investment projects and mega dam project on Salween River. MYPO also have promoted and maintained Mon literature, language and culture.
3. Vision, Mission, Goal and Objectives
Vision
To achieve peace, equality and liberty to the people of Myanmar.
Mission
Based on youth force, build strong youth-based organizations, partner and cooperate with civil society organizations, community based organization and ethnic youth organization to strive for peace, equality and liberty to the people of Myanmar.
Goal
To support struggling for federal- democracy and equalities.
Objectives
- To train youth leaders and future leader.
- To strengthen youth force and youth organizations.
- To strengthen the networking, build unity among Mon youth and ethnic youth.
- To preserve and promote Mon literature and culture.
- To protect and maintain the environment in Mon community and in Myanmar.
